DAF (van Doorne Aanhanger Fabriek) is a Dutch buses and trucks manufacturer. Its two main production sites are located in Westerlo (Belgium) and Eindhoven (Netherlands), where the headquarters are. DAFTrucks N.V. is a branch of PACCAR Inc located in the USA. Its main activity is development, production, marketing and the sale of smedium and heavy industrial vehicles. DAF Trucks also manufactures components, axles and complete engines for coaches, buses and special vehicles.
Created on April 1st, 1928 by two brother : Wim and Hubertus Van Doorne, the company started by manufacturing chassis, trailers and transmissions used by army trucks. After World War II, DAF starts producing commercial vehicles and engines. The first car, the DAF 600, produced in 1958, sold in 800.000 examples. After the purchase of the car production branch by Volvo in 1976, DAF devotes itself to trucks production and becomes in 2010 the first European truck manufacturer. The DAF trucks received the "Truck of the Year" award several times : in 1988 for the DAF 95, in 1998 for the 95 XF, in 2002 for the LF and in 2007 for the XF 105.
